About

Santa Josefina Blood Bank

Our Mission

The Santa Josefina Blood Bank is dedicated to the service of people, physicians and medical facilities both public and private in the State of Baja California Sur supplying blood and its derivatives to all in need.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a non-profit medical facility with state of the art equipment and personnel that will have life changing impact in care and treatment requiring blood and its derivatives.

Santa Josefina will maintain quality in all aspects of our professional service growing with the needs of Los Cabos, especially in service to the children who depend on us as a source of treatment for life threatening illness such as leukemia and other childhood cancers.

More About Our Blood Bank

Before Santa Josefina, those who where in need of blood products had to go to La Paz, a five hour round trip, or have them sent in the baggage compartment of the bus line serving the route… and if it was after three, you were out of luck. Needless to say, this was an unacceptable situation, tragedies had occurred, families were put under unspeakable stress and it was time to do something different.

Seeing and facing this striking community need, Los Cabos Children's Foundation provided the start up and ongoing funding for Santa Josefina and local charity Amigos de los Niños pitched in on the leg work. Getting the equipment shipped from the mainland and working through the permit and verification process was a long hard road, but it has been done! We have just received our 'Donataria Status' which gives Santa Josefina the ability to issue tax deductible receipts for donations to the Blood Bank This is an excellent opportunity for the greater Los Cabos community to become involved and support this institution. During the two years Santa Josefina has been in operation over 800 units of emergency blood have been supplied to local hospitals and clinics, it is serving and saving lives.

Santa Josefina also has the very important secondary mission of being the first step towards caring for children with leukemia and other cancers in the Los Cabos area through the 'Spirit of Joy' Children's Cancer Project. Also under the umbrella of Los Cabos Children's Foundation this project is currently caring for over a dozen local children with cancer.

Thank you to all who have helped with this incredible project; it is not everyone who says "No blood bank? Let's build one!" But Los Cabos Children's Foundation did, thinking big is an amazing thing!
